Secret Struggle: A Christian girl's burden and how to overcome it

Hello hello beautiful ladies! Today, I thought I would take a break from our usual series and write about something that has been on my heart for a very long time. Let me begin by saying that as women, we deal with a lot: boy drama, periods, emotions, etc. As Christian women, we deal with a lot as well, sometimes more. One of the things we can deal with is sexual sin. I'm going to be vulnerable here for a minute: I've dealt with the burden of sexual sin for a long time. I won't go into specifics but it has been a huge part of my life that I wish I could have been free of time and time again in the past and today. I recently talked to a wonderful sister in Christ, Amy Riordan (check out her blog, Walking in Freedom) and she reminded me of a few things: first, it is very easy to feel so unworthy of love, especially God's love when we allow sin to overtake our lives. However, God wants nothing more than for us to be in His presence. He loves us more than we could ever imagine and He wants us to be free. Second, there are lots of reasons why women turn to sexual sin; insecurity, stress, anger, curiosity, rebellion etc. Amy reminded me that God can fulfill ANY and I mean ANYTHING we could ever want/need or think we want/need. She also told me to remember to be VULNERABLE with God. Remember, although He already knows everything we are going through, we have done, we want, He wants us to be honest with Him; He wants us to TELL Him what's going on in our lives. Part of any good relationship is candor and it's the same with our most important relationship; the one with the Creator of the Universe. As Christian women, we are expected to just be able to "handle" certain things. Sexual sin is something that only men are supposed to struggle with. Certainly, a godly woman has no place stuggling with "that" type of sin. But my sweet friends, it is something that far more women deal with than you might think. That being said, the good news, the incredibly sweet news is that both you and I can be free of it's clutches. The devil wants us to fail; wants us to keep sinning because nothing would make him happier than for us to walk away from God. But here's what we can be reassured of: the devil may have had a hold of our past, but he does NOT hold our future. When we accept Christ as our Savior, we can be reassured that Jesus holds our future, not Satan. Through Jesus' love, we can be free of any type of sin that has held us captive. God knows I'm not perfect. He knows I still struggle and sometimes, I give into temptation. He knows we all do. For me, this will be a day to day battle. But, I know with God's strength, forgiveness, mercy, and grace, I can finally be unshackled and so can you my sweet sister in Christ. If you ever want to talk, I am always always here for you. We are in this together.

Much love,

M xoxo
